Bowen treatments consist of light, rolling movements performed in sequence over specific areas of the body. These moves gently “challenge” muscles, ligaments and tendons. This stimulation sends a message to the brain to reset muscles to their default position: tight muscles relax and over-stretched muscles regain their tone.
This process of reeducation releases tension patterns and makes Bowen invaluable in musculoskeletal and postural issues such as:
- Acute and Chronic Back & Neck pain
- Tension Headaches
- Sciatica
- Scoliosis
- Carpal Tunnel & Frozen shoulder
- Joint pain(hip, knee, ankle, etc.) due to injury or misalignment
- Fibromyalgia
- Bunions
In particular, I’ve witnessed excellent results with both TMJ and Plantar Fasciitis cases.
Unique to this therapy are the short pauses incorporated into every sequence that allow the body time to integrate the information and respond. The Bowen therapist leaves the room during these intervals to avoid interfering with this self-healing process.
This pattern of precise movements interspersed with pauses continues throughout the session, creating a soothing and therapeutic rhythm.
Bowen sequences produce whole-body responses that are beneficial in a variety of gastrointestinal, respiratory, gynecological and endocrine problems, including:
- Indigestion/Heartburn, Constipation, Reflux
- Asthma, Allergies, Bronchitis, Sinusitis
- PMS (for breast tenderness and cramps), urinary incontinence
- Migraines
Because mental and emotional shifts occur during treatment, Bowen can successfully restore and balance energy that has been depleted due to stress and grief, as well as illness & injury.
Benefits are usually apparent within 2-3 sessions, even when long-standing complaints are being addressed. Because Bowen allows the body to reset and heal itself, results are often lasting and profound.
